Innovative Eye Care Adds New Optos® Daytona Retinal Imagining Camera

At Innovative Eye Care in Kalamazoo, we understand the importance of using the latest ocular technologies. We cannot provide the highest level of patient care using old, out of date equipment. We believe it is our duty to upgrade and add equipment as it is made available. Most recently, we have purchased a new retinal camera – the Optos® Daytona.

In this month’s blog post, we will discuss retinal imaging and the benefits of our new Optos® Daytona retinal camera at Innovative Eye Care. If you have any questions, or would like to schedule an appointment, do not hesitate to contact us.

What is the Purpose of a Retinal Camera?

A retinal camera takes a digital picture of the back of your eye. It shows the retina, the optic nerve, and blood vessels.

  • Retina: Where light and images hit your eye.
  • Optic Nerve: Responsible for sending images to the brain.

The image produced by the camera is an amazing tool that aids Dr. Copeland in checking the health of your eyes and finding certain ocular diseases. This new technology is a major improvement from the traditional ophthalmoscope. It allows Dr. Copeland to get a much wider (and more precise) digital view of the retina and surrounding blood vessels. A retinal camera is particularly useful for patients with certain eye diseases and/or risk factors that include…

  • Diabetes
  • Macular Degeneration
  • Glaucoma
  • Retinal Toxicity (caused by certain arthritis medications)

The Benefits of the Optos® Daytona Camera at Innovative Eye Care

The Optos® Daytona retinal camera produces a 200° single-capture retinal image (optomap) that is of extreme clarity in less than one second. This retinal no-contact camera is fast, easy, and non-invasive and provides an ultra-widefield view that is more precise than other retinal examination methods. The Daytona retinal camera improves patient eye care in a number of ways.

Enhances Clinical Decision-Making

Evaluation of the peripheral retina is critical for optimal patient management. The Daytona uses optomap imaging which captures the widest clinically usable
field of view and the most retinal pathology.

Reduces Appointment Time

Studies have shown that optomap images are much faster to capture and easier to review than traditional patient examination techniques. In fact, the use of this camera for retinal imagining reduces appointment time by nearly 30 minutes.
